Ravanan review....

I just watched Ravanan last Wednesday at BIG Cinemas Teluk Intan. To be honest, the movie is very well-taken. Mani Ratnam had done his magic yet again. The story is pretty much straight forward, no nonsense. It is adapted, with a twist from the "Ashokavanam" chapter of a famous Indian epic, Ramayana where the evil king Ravanan abducts Sita , Ram's wife and brought her to his palace in Lanka. According to the epic, Ram was the crown prince of Ayodhya kingdom and both Ram and Sita were sent to the forest for 14 years.
There is no need to say about music as the Mozart of Chennai has done it again. yup, A.R.Rahman has belted in 6 songs which you can listen to them over and over again.
The cinematography is superb ,especially the scene of Ragini falling down off a cliff is very realistic. Hats off to Santosh Sivan. Even the casts did the stunts on their own. However, the dialogue is a let down , a minor scar of a highly entertaining movie.

In fact, the director triggered us with the question ,
Is there a Ram in Ravanan or is there a Ravanan in every one of us ?
I gave it a thought , in fact the question had an ambiguous answer. According to Sigmund Freud's "Iceberg Theory", a human being has three level of psychological....namely Id, Ego and Superego. Id is the "inner devil" of us where it is purely based on instincts, mostly are negative attitudes such as lust, greed, gluttony, evil and so on.
Superego is the goody behaviour of ourselves, which is abide to moral values , ethics, rules and norm of the public. It is based on our thoughts.
So, by referring to the model of the iceberg, superego is the part which is visible to the water surface while Id is the unseen part and lied deep underwater.
Thus, to answer the question, I would say, there is evil lurking in every one of us and there is some goodness in an evil person as that person is also a human being. It depends to Ego to put our personality up in a balance.
In a nutshell, it is these three elements, Id, Ego and Superego which in turn creates the unpredictable nature of man........

Movie Rating : 4.75 / 5 .....worth your money buying the ticket for this movie...

Vellai Pookal....

I just heard a beautiful song sung and composed by A.R.Rahman....beautiful not only on the music but also the lyrics....Listening this song in a quiet environment and also during a rainy day will make u feel like flying...I have also included the lyrics with English translation so that everyone can treasure the beauty of the lyrics....enjoy.... :-)

P/s The song is more like a prayer for world peace....

Pallavi
--------
Vellai pookkal ulagam engum malargavey!
(Let white flowers bloom all around earth,)
Vidiyum bhoomi amaithikkaga vidigavey!
(Wakening world arise for peace,)
Manmael manjal velichcham vizhugavey!
(Amber light suffuse the morning dust, )
Malarey soambal muriththu ezhugavey!
(And flowers stretch from the arms of slumber. )
Kuzhandhai vizhikkattumae, thaayin kadhakadhappil
( Let the child wake up from the mother's morning cuddle,)
Ulagam vidiyattumey, Pillayin siru mudhal sirippil...
(And let the whole world awaken to the child's first sleepy smile of the morning.)

Charanam-1
-----------
Kaatrin paerisayum,
Mazhai paadum paadalgalum,
(The great music of winds, and songs that rain sings,)
Oru mounam, poal inbam, tharumo?
(Can it bring forth happiness as does a moment of silence? )

Kodi keerthanamum
Kavi koartha vaarthaigalum,
(Billions of melodies and sweet words of the poet, )
Thuli kanneer, poal artham, tharumo?
(Can it convey the meaning as a drop of tear does?)
(Repeat Pallavi)

Charanam - 2
-------------
Engu siru kuzhandhai,
Than kaigal neettidumo,
Angu thoandraayo, Kollai, nilavey!
(Where a small child holds out her hand - Ask a thousand moons to appear!)

Engu manidha inam,
Poar oindhu saaindhidumo,
Angu koovaayo, vellai, kuyile!
(Where a war-worn humanity tired rests - Ask the white Indian cuckoo to sing! )

(Repeat Pallavi)

Hosanna...

Finally the wait for the audios for the movie Vinnaithaandi Varuvaaya (VTV in short) or "Would You Cross the Skies for Me" is over....Audios was being released officially on 12th of this month...
The bumper combination of Gautham Menon (director) and double Oscar winner A.R. Rahman (music director) plus Simbhu and Trisha as the leading casts promises to be Valentine's Day sell-out. The Mozart of Chennai has produced 6 beautiful tracks for this movie...which my ears won't go weary hearing these songs repeatedly. All the songs were nice but my personal favourite was the song , Hosanna. If you google this word, it will say it is a word of praise in Christianity and Judaism. But, however in the context of this movie, the word is recited as joy of falling in love. This is the lyric for the song... enjoy....

P/s Pls give your support by buying Original CD's...can't wait for the movie's release on Feb 12...

Ponggal Valzhtukkal

Tomorrow on January 14th, Indians worldwide will be celebrating Ponggal. Boiling rice until it spills out of the claypot is a norm in this festival . This is to symbolize the longevity of prosperity. Pongal is basically a harvest festival , to mark an end to a traditional farming season in mainland India. Pongal also marks the start of the northwards movement of the Sun for the remaining six months. Traditionally, Ponggal is celebrated in 4 days, 1st day is called Boghi where people will throw off unwanted , old products and changed them with new products , symbolising the new spirit in life. 2nd day is Thaiponggal itself, 1st day of the Thai month , 3rd day is called Maatu Ponggal and the 4th day is Kannum Ponggal. For more info on this festival, click What is Pongal ?
Last but not least, I would like to wish all my Indian friends Happy Ponggal.
En Iniya Ponggal Valzhtukkal . Ponggalo Ponggal !!!!
