Ponggal Valzhtukkal

Tomorrow on January 14th, Indians worldwide will be celebrating Ponggal. Boiling rice until it spills out of the claypot is a norm in this festival . This is to symbolize the longevity of prosperity. Pongal is basically a harvest festival , to mark an end to a traditional farming season in mainland India. Pongal also marks the start of the northwards movement of the Sun for the remaining six months. Traditionally, Ponggal is celebrated in 4 days, 1st day is called Boghi where people will throw off unwanted , old products and changed them with new products , symbolising the new spirit in life. 2nd day is Thaiponggal itself, 1st day of the Thai month , 3rd day is called Maatu Ponggal and the 4th day is Kannum Ponggal. Last but not least, I would like to wish all my Indian friends Happy Ponggal.
